Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo are running it back with a UFC title once again on the line.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources that Benavidez and Figueiredo will meet in a bout for a vacant flyweight championship on July 18, with a location to be determined. The matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie.
This is a rematch from a Feb. 29 Fight Night event in Norfolk, Va., where Figueiredo defeated Benavidez by second-round TKO. The bout was meant to crown a new flyweight champion after the title was vacated by two-division champion Henry Cejudo, but due to Figueiredo missing weight by 2.5 pounds for the contest, the title remained vacant after his win.
Benavidez also later complained of an accidental headbutt that may have directly influenced the finishing sequence, a comment that Figueiredo refuted. Neither fighter has competed since and both expressed interest in a rematch afterwards.
The July 18 event has not been officially announced by the UFC.
